Bhutan provides several trekking routes both for connoisseurs and expert climbers. The most challenging treks are those which climb towards the north western border of Bhutan, where the highest peaks of the Himalayas separate Bhutan and Tibet. The best know of these are the Jhomolhari Trek, the Lingshi/Laya Trek and the Lunana Trek. Of these, the Lunana Trek is the most challenging and one of the world's greatest providing three to four weeks of hiking in the highest and most remote peaks and valleys.
Apart from this some lower altitude treks too are available where trails lead through lush forests renowned for the range and diversity of their flora and fauna. The verdant forests, clean and unspoiled trails and pristine wilderness combine to give an unforgettable experience. These routes also offer the opportunity to visit villages, farms and temples along the way. Some of the most popular lower altitude treks are the Bumthang Trek, the Gangtey Trek and the Punakha Trek. In eastern Bhutan, the hikers can explore the ridges leading to the eastern border with India on treks to Lhuentse and Rodungla. Innumerable other treks are available in Bhutan which an be chalked in the itinerary if desired.
